About Us

Family Veterinary Hospital was built in 2008 by Dr. Chau to serve south eastern Loudoun, western Fairfax, and parts of Prince William County.  Our clients often travel much further however, due to Dr. Chau’s loyal following who first got to know her when she was working in Maryland and the DC area as an independent doctor working at over 15 facilities when she first graduated.  Family Vet Hospital was built with the highest standards in mind which is why even after 12 years, many clients still comment that our facility is the nicest, quietest, cleanest and odor-free facility that they’ve experienced.  We invested in costly high-quality seamless epoxy floors which do not accumulate contamination that is common in tile grouting.  Similarly we purchased a separate AC and heating unit that allowed us to have separate ducting that keeps airborne contaminates from migrating throughout the hospital.  We also use the highest quality charcoal filtering that improves our air quality, and in 2020 we installed 2 UVC shortwave sanitizing scrubbers to our air handling system for 100% coverage that kills bacteria and viruses (including airborne COVID 19.)

In addition to tremendous investments in facility, we made equally high investments in equipment, including human-quality ultrasound scanning equipment and digital xrays.  This has helped clients and pets who don’t need multiple scans due to the high quality imaging we can get on the first scan or xray image taken.  Many of our images are of such high quality that specialists can (and have) made diagnostics remotely.  We have the highest speed internet access to our facility and are completely paperless so sharing patient records, xrays and even movies with specialists in the area or around the world is a daily activity of ours.  Also we do not sell retail items, pet food, groom, board, and we maintain minimal pharmacy so our staff can focus on what we do best: delivering the highest-quality vet medicine that we would want for our own family members.

Illustrative of our commitment and passion to patient care, we have for years touted and still maintain a perfect record of having no patients dying under anesthesia, regardless of the complexity of the procedure.  One rare tool in the veterinary profession that we have had for years is the tool that is so often touted as the difference between life-and-death in human patients who are battling COVID 19; that is, we own 3 mechanical ventilators and make their use mandatory for every anesthetic procedure we preform.  Having no “accidental” deaths under anesthesia is nearly unheard of in the veterinary industry, and we believe that must change by leading by example.

We believe we provide superior quality care at competitive prices.  We have more than 1,000 5-star reviews (https://local.demandforce.com/b/family-vet), have appeared in national magazines and newspapers, and are considered a benchmark on how high quality vet hospitals should be run (on paying a living wage to our staff, providing health and retirement benefits, promoting staff safety through smart infrastructure and machine-assisted lifting tables, etc.)  Our staff receive a fixed salary and DO NOT get paid on commission unlike many vet hospitals in our area that have many doctors per clinic.  Also, our staff have received pay increases every year since the year we opened.  We are so proud of our business and are dedicated to operating as transparently as possible.  We are regularly a highest-performer animal hospital by YELP (which, due to us having so many 5-star ratings filters 2/3 – the most of any vet hospital in the region) and AngiesList, and Dr. Chau has been identified as one of the best veterinarians in Northern Virginia (as recently as 2020.)
